poetry is

poetry is
by Blanche Saffron Kabengele

poetry is a bathtub filled of bubbling
philosophical hooch, is

the essence between the peanut concocting
into butter, and the jelly peeking out the sides, is

the life bread of Black culture,
slanging bebop all the way, is

poetic words to fill a mouth full
who’s fortunate to have more than the rest, is

whose hair is done once a week with their own hair
because they got it like that!

Blanche Saffron Kabengele author of Conjugal Relations of Africans and African Americans and Quiet as It’s Kept, Me Too and Other Poetic Expressions of Life holds a doctorate in Educational Studies University of Cincinnati, and has published poetry in East Fork Journal, For A Better World, and W-POESIS. Blanche and husband Peter spent three summers in the DRC Congo, travelling Europe and a summer experiencing the uncomplicated existence down under where kangaroos outnumber people.
