Worst word in science, as in “not a real result”—experiment as bezoar or reflux, hacked up by poor methodology. Sadly, the first response of the hidebound lab, when discovery knocks, such as gastroenterologists hurling poop on Dr. Barry Marshall for concluding Helicobactor causes peptic ulcers. But the actual world always prevails and my mouth now retastes chilies, and neat single malt rather than scotch and milk at the local—clarithromycin alone turns the key. Even in poetry, genius begins as atoms no one else has cleaved.

Gary Grossman likes to write and share his work with readers. His work has been nominated for awards, but hasn’t yet won, so meh, right? Gary enjoys running, music, fishing, and gardening. His poetry books Lyrical Years (Kelsay), What I Meant to Say Was… (Impspired Press), Objects in Mirror May Be Closer Than They Appear (Arroyo Seco), and graphic memoir My Life in Fish—One Scientist’s Journey…(Impspired) all are available from Amazon or the author.
