A Spectacle

A Spectacle
by Lara Frankena

The woman next to me is intent on dropping things. First her phone under the tiny cafe table. Sunglasses clatter after as she attempts to retrieve it. Then her scarf, casually flung over the chair, slithers to the floor. I fear for her croissant, precariously balanced on its porcelain plate.

Lara Frankena is a Midwesterner by birth and a Londoner by chance. Her poems have appeared in Poetry News, Oxford Poetry and Magma, among others.
