Blueberry #5

Blueberry #5
by Kelly Houle

It started as a joke. I took one from the carton, propped it on the wood block, and began to paint.

Dalí believed the architecture of the soul may be governed by the primordial monarchy of the sphere. At any scale the painter must pay attention to the properties of form. Even in miniature, there is the muted highlight, the disappearing edge.

In animated loops, I watch the indigo world in chiaroscuro, ever-changing pattern of dusty bloom, the sun’s highlight reflected on sheer ocean laced with stratocumulus. Earth rise painted plein air from a lunar highland.
